How to use
How to use FoodPack AI
Four steps from a food to a packaging specification you can check.
- 1
Choose your food
Search for the commodity. Its published storage conditions are filled in with their source, and you can change any of them.
- 2
Describe the pack
Enter the product mass and the film area of one pack. They turn a per-kilogram requirement into a film specification.
- 3
Analyse and read the answer
The recommendation shows the material, whether it meets the primary requirement, its score and the thickness range.
- 4
Check the evidence, then test it
Open the evidence to see every source and measurement condition. Use What if to change temperature or humidity and see the ranking move.
Worked examples
A farmer packing strawberries for a chilled truck
Choose Strawberry. The engine computes the oxygen window from strawberry respiration at 0 °C and screens films against it.
A startup packing a dry powder
Choose the fish soup powder. The engine computes the water-vapour barrier needed to stay below the critical moisture for your shelf life.
A researcher comparing films
Open the Material library to see every property measurement with its source, units and test conditions.
Glossary
- OTR
- Oxygen transmission rate: how much oxygen passes through a given area of film per day.
- WVTR
- Water vapour transmission rate: how much water vapour passes through a given area of film per day.
- MAP
- Modified atmosphere packaging: a pack whose inside gas mix is set or allowed to settle to slow spoilage.
- P
- Permeability: a property of the material itself, independent of how thick the film is.
- aw
- Water activity: how available the water in a food is for spoilage. Dry foods must stay below a critical value.
- RR
- Respiration rate: how fast fresh produce consumes oxygen. It rises with temperature.
